Martin Luther King Jr. Weekend Events

This event is organized by the Town of Apex. What does this mean?

Martin Luther King Jr. Day is observed every year on the third Monday of January. Martin Luther King Jr. was an influential civil rights leader whose work focused on racial equality and ending racial segregation in the United States. His life and achievements are remembered and celebrated on this day.

Check back later in 2026 for MLK Jr. Weekend 2027 details!

Thank you to our cultural advisory group, the Divine Nine, for their collaboration and time spent volunteering to bring MLK Jr. Weekend to the Apex community.

Know Before You Go:

  • View the downtown parking map for information on available parking.
  • On Saturday, January 17th, Salem Street will be closed from 9 am to 10 am, with the street re-opening on a rolling basis as the march heads to Town Hall. This is a rain or shine event - be prepared for all weather!
  • Town staff may be on site during the event weekend to take photos/videos.

What is the difference between a Community Event and a Town-Organized Event?

Community Events
This is an event that a non-profit organization runs, pays for, and plans. Town of Apex staff provides an event location (Town Hall Campus, Salem Street, etc.), along with staff from public safety, public works and other departments, as necessary.

Town-Organized Events
This is an event that the Town of Apex creates, pays for, and plans. Town of Apex staff manages the programming, including activities, logistics, and vendors. This is sometimes referred to as a “Town Owned Event”.
