Scam Alert: Avoid Development Project Fee Payment Scam
The Town was recently made aware of scam attempts associated with development project fee payments. These scams involve the use of invoices sent to applicants listed on Planning Board agendas and legal ads asking for payment via wire transfer. They take information from official Town documents to make their invoices and email communications look real. They are targeting both big developers and individual citizens – anyone listed on an agenda is at risk. Don’t fall for this scam! Take note that:
The Town does not invoice for development project fees associated with agenda items, so if you receive an invoice, it is a scam – you should immediately delete it.
The Town does not accept fee payments via wire transfer. If you are asked to pay anything via wire transfer, it is a scam – do not wire funds as they are not legitimate Town payments.
