[ARCHIVED] Apex Senior Spirit Week and Peak PROMenade

In the absence of a traditional prom, Apex seniors will celebrate with a “Peak PROMenade”!

The event will take place over two nights at The Depot in downtown Apex, and will include a large covered tent, photo booth, selfie stations, a DJ, and special PROMenade party favors. Many Apex restaurants will offer fixed-price menus for prom-goers by reservation.

In order to adhere to safety protocols, seniors will be allowed to buy one ticket for themselves and one for a guest to attend an hour-long time block in the tent area. Sign up procedures will be announced by each school in the near future. Apex High School will be hosted on Friday, May 21st, and Apex Friendship High School will attend on Saturday, May 22nd. A special time is reserved on Saturday for the special education students from both schools to share in the fun. [Note: The quantities of tickets sold and the plans described in this release are based upon current guidelines from the CDC, NC Department of Health and Safety, and Wake County Public Schools for increased or reduced mitigation efforts of COVID.]

“Apex High School and the Prom committee is determined to give our Senior Class of 2021 a unique and COVID friendly alternative to Prom.” said Apex High School Principal Elaine Hofmann. “The PEAK PROMenade is going to be an extra special event in downtown Apex!”

Apex Friendship principal Matt Wight added, “We believe the wonderful evening of activities we have planned as an alternative to the traditional prom will leave a memorable mark in the minds and hearts of our graduating seniors.”

Leading up to the PROMenade will be Apex Senior Spirit Week, honoring all high school seniors in town from May 17 – 23.  The Town of Apex, along with the Apex Chamber of Commerce, and all three Apex schools with a senior class (AHS, AFHS, and Thales Academy) are partnering with the local business community to offer online and in-store specials to seniors.

Participating businesses are encouraged decorate their business for the class of 2021 during the entire spirit week.

“The seniors have not been able to experience all the milestones that seniors typically enjoy,” said Shannon Flaherty, President Apex Chamber of Commerce. “The Apex Chamber is proud to be a part of putting a smile on their faces and to help make a lasting memory for them!”

Apex seniors should keep an eye out from their principals for more info on the week’s events.

“I’m thankful for the amazing people who have been involved with casting the vision and planning the activities for this wonderful event in our historic Downtown”, said Apex Mayor Jacques Gilbert. “May the spirit of the event illuminate throughout our entire town and create fun-filled memories for all. There is nothing we can’t accomplish when we work together. This is Apex!”
