On Thursday, October 17th, we officially broke ground on the Apex Peakway Southwest Connector project.
The project was funded in part by two voter-approved transportation bonds - one in 2015 and another in 2021, and $12.5 million in NCDOT Locally Administered Projects Program (LAPP) funds. This new portion of the Apex Peakway is a four-lane bridge over South Salem Street and the CSX rail line and features many safety features including sidewalk, 10' asphalt side path, wide outside lanes to accommodate cyclists, and a concrete barrier between vehicles and sidewalk/side path.
Anticipated completion of this project is 2027 and will enhance connectivity within Apex for motorists and pedestrians.
