Historic Downtown Apex
- Downtown Apex, considered one of the most intact turn-of-the-century railroad towns in the area, received official designation as a Historic District in 1994.
- The Downtown Historic District has commercial/residential buildings dating back to the late 1800s which represent a large variety of architectural styles. Many buildings are listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
- The Depot, built sometime between 1867 and 1873, is designated as a Wake County landmark. This location marked the highest point on the old Chatham Railroad. An old caboose has been added to the site and serves as a historical museum. Once serving as a working railroad depot station, this building is now home to Town of Apex Economic Development staff, as well as the Apex Chamber of Commerce.
