[ARCHIVED] Construction Projects in Town

Road Construction v2

N. Salem Water Rehabilitation Project

Project Timeline: July 26, 2021 - (approximately) September 9, 2021

Project Overview

Beginning July 26th, partial road closures will be necessary to repair a water main through downtown Apex. Work will be done on N. Salem Street from NC55 to Chatham Street, and from Center Street to Hunter Street. Expect delays in this area of town from 9am-5pm daily, for about 5 weeks.

In order to minimize disturbance to local residents and businesses, the Town will rehabilitate the existing water line instead of a traditional dig-and-replace project.  By doing a rehabilitation, a small (5’x5’) access point every 500’ along the project route is needed and therefore, will result in temporary/partial lane closures, maintaining at least 1 lane of traffic open at all times. Whenever possible, 2 full lanes will be open.

Water Service

Water customers around the area may experience a brief water outage as water is temporarily switched to a bypass water line, and those affected will be notified in advance. Once construction is complete, water service will be switched back to the new, rehabilitated water line and the bypass pipe will be removed. This switch back will again cause a brief outage, and all customers will be notified in advance.

Parking/Driveway Access

While we can’t guarantee that your driveway will never be blocked, the goal is to set up all equipment and access points away from driveways. If, a driveway is temporarily blocked, customers will be notified so that alternate parking and access accommodations can be made.

East Williams Street (NC 55) Sidewalk

Project Timeline: August 2, 2021 - (approximately) March 22, 2022

Project Overview

A concrete sidewalk will be constructed on the east side of NC 55 (East Williams Street) and along Bobbit Road from Sunset Lake Road northward, providing connections to existing sidewalk along NC 55 and Sunset Lake Road.
