For starters, evacuate if you are directed to do so by the authorities. Listen to your local radio/television stations or Emergency Alert System for emergency information/instructions. Be sure to evacuate early in order to avoid possible danger.
Carefully follow instructions and directions to the area shelter opened for the disaster. Go immediately, do not wait until it is too late to get out.
Bring your disaster supplies kit with you. It should contain personal safety items. You can also bring items for comfort and convenience.

Water is essential, store bottled water (1 gallon/person/day). If purification is necessary, listen to the radio for instructions from public health officials.
